The distinction shapes the whole project. Air-dry hardens without equipment and stays porous, so a bowl made from it is decorative. Kiln-fired clay vitrifies and holds liquid, and needs access to a kiln at the right temperature. Decide which of the two a project needs before the class starts rather than halfway through it.
