Thick Triangular Pencils With a Soft 2B Lead
Staedtler 119N-2B is a box of 12 Noris natural jumbo pencils: thick triangular barrels in natural wood with a soft 2B graphite lead.
The lead measures about 4 mm according to Staedtler, set in a triangular jumbo barrel, and they rate the pencil for high break-resistance during first writing exercises. The three flat sides give small fingers somewhere to rest, and the wide barrel is easier to hold than a standard pencil.
2B is the darker of the two grades in this range. It leaves a bold grey line with light pressure, which suits drawing, shading and colouring-in outlines as much as early letters. For neater, lighter handwriting practice the HB version (119N-HB) is the usual pick.
A jumbo pencil needs a jumbo sharpener hole: Staedtler recommend the 512 188 tub or the 510 20 double hole metal sharpener. Classrooms that go through a lot can buy the same 2B pencil in a cup of 72.
