A colour visual timer with five preset durations - 1 to 15 minutes - that shows time passing as a shrinking coloured band rather than as numbers.
"Five more minutes" means nothing to a child who cannot yet read a clock. A coloured band that visibly shrinks means everything. That is the whole argument for a visual timer, and it is why they show up in almost every classroom that has a student who melts down at transitions.
Five presets rather than a dial is deliberate: a child can set it themselves without getting it wrong, which turns the timer from something done to them into something they control.
