A 40cm light cube with double the LEDs, and 268 things to put on it

40 x 40 x 40cm rechargeable light cube with flash, strobe and colour change on a remote, plus the 268 piece accessory set. Includes a teaching guide. $365.40.

A light panel lies flat and you look down at it. A cube stands up, so you can use all six faces - it is a light table, a 3D light box and a glowing object in a room, depending on which way you are looking at it.

Double the LEDs of the previous cube, per the supplier - which is the difference between a light source you can use in a half-dark corner and one that needs the blinds shut.

Rechargeable and portable, so there is no lead across the floor.

What comes in the kit: the cube (RE59601-1) and the 268 piece accessory set (RE59602) - 5 clear plastic trays that sit on top, counting and sorting rings, 12 optical illusion sheets, 2 paint pipettes, 2 squiggle pipettes, 8 clear vials, 3 paint scrapers, 8 animal X-rays, a power source, a remote control and a teaching guide.

The trays are the practical bit. They sit on the cube so sand, water and paint stay off the surface - which is what lets a $365 piece of equipment survive a messy play session.

"Contents may vary" is the supplier's own note, and on a 268 piece kit that is not nothing. The list above is what they publish; treat it as indicative rather than a packing list, and ask us if a specific component is the reason you are buying.

It has flash and strobe modes. Those are the ones we would leave off in a room with a light-sensitive child - the caution is ours, not a supplier warning. The supplier does say to use the kit with supervision.
