Adhesive labels are faster and read cleanly and they will not hold on wet, waxed, dusty or heavily textured surfaces. A tie-on tag sidesteps that completely, which is what keeps it in use on sacks, pallets, plant and anything going through weather. String or wire follows the journey rather than the destination.
