Reading age is the specification. A full adult dictionary in a primary classroom is unusable, and a junior edition in secondary is quickly outgrown, so match the edition to the year rather than to the word count. Check whether the school specifies a particular edition before buying a class set. See educational books, student stationery and teacher resources.
