Optical Disks
The medium outlasts a hard drive in a drawer, which is why it persists for archival and legal deposit. The risk has shifted to hardware, since most current machines have no drive, so an archive plan has to keep a reader with the discs. Write-once formats suit records that must not change. Store away from heat and light. See optical media, storage devices and external drives.
