Entry count is the number on the cover and the least useful one. What matters is whether the definitions are written at the reader's level, since a student who cannot parse the explanation stops looking things up. A thumb index or clear alphabet tabs makes the difference between a book that gets opened and one that stays on the shelf. Check whether a thesaurus is bound in.
