Coloured Tape Flugs
Protrusion past the page edge is the entire point. A flag extends past the page edge so a marked point is findable in a closed document, which a note folded inside is not. Colour carries the meaning, so keep the scheme small and written down. Repositionable adhesive lifts without tearing, which matters on originals. See page markers, sticky notes and signalling labels.
