The Yellow That Carries A Headline Across The Street
Uni PWE-5M Fluorescent Yellow is a medium bullet liquid chalk marker sold as one pen, in the bright yellow that sign writers reach for when a word on a board or a window has to be read from a distance.
Against a black board, yellow is about as strong a contrast as a chalk marker gets, with only white coming close. That makes it the colour for the one line that matters: the band playing tonight, the new opening hours, a star and a price on the special. It is also a good outline colour, drawn around white lettering to lift it off the board. On a restaurant window at dusk, with lights on inside, yellow script still stands out against the room behind it.
Uni present the PWE-5M as water based and aimed at non-porous surfaces: glass and windows, mirrors, metal. They add that it copes with rain within reason and cleans off with a damp cloth, and they warn against porous surfaces. Chalkboard advice from Uni is split, as the FAQ explains.
