Leaf-shaped feathers in red, yellow and black
These Zart trimmed feathers, supplier code FTZ211, are soft leaf-shaped feathers in red, yellow and black, which Zart lists as Trimmed Feathers Aboriginal Flag Colours.
The Creative School Supply Company says the colours are inspired by the Aboriginal Flag. Each feather is trimmed into a leaf shape, and the supplier describes them as lightweight, soft and easy to handle and glue. It suggests them for NAIDOC Week or year-round cultural projects, as a way to reflect on, discuss and celebrate Aboriginal culture in a respectful and creative way.
The leaf shape gives students new ways to explore pattern, form and texture, according to the supplier. It names layered collage, greeting cards, wreaths and wall displays as projects. Red, yellow and black are the colours in the pack, so designs are planned within that palette from the start.
Talk through the meaning of the colours with students before the making begins. Have glue and backing card ready before the lesson. Find more craft feathers, educational craft supplies, art and craft supplies and the wider Zart range.
