A Light White Base For Painted Projects
FIMOair light 8133-0 is a 125 g block of white air-drying modelling clay from Staedtler, very light once dry, which makes it a natural fit for mobiles, masks and anything that will be painted.
Staedtler suggest FIMOair light for mobiles or masks, and the weight is the reason. A hanging piece that stays light puts less strain on thread, hooks and card. The clay comes ready to use, feels smooth and keeps its form while it sets, with no oven involved.
White gives paint a clean start. Staedtler say it is easy to paint, for example with acrylics. You can also knead a little acrylic into the raw clay to tint it, or paint watercolour on the dry surface and seal it with two coats of varnish.
For schools and kindergartens this is a tidy option: no firing, no water bucket, and hard pieces can still be sanded or drilled to tidy edges or add a hanging hole. Turn models after 12 hours so the underside dries too.
