FIMO kids form and play Butterfly, Staedtler 8034 10 LZ, is a soft clay set for making bright butterflies with patterned wings, plus a flower meadow backdrop for displaying them.
Butterflies are a neat way to practise symmetry. Each wing is shaped as a mirror of the other, then decorated with flattened dots and rings of contrasting clay. The step-by-step booklet shows the order, and the modelling stick presses in antennae and body segments.
Staedtler list the clay as yellow, pink, turquoise and glitter white, 42 g of each. The glitter white catches the light on wing edges.
Baking makes the wings rigid: an adult puts them in at 110°C and takes them out after 30 minutes. The meadow surface, templates and stickers then turn them into a scene. Suggested age is 8 upwards, with an adult around.
