A Student Leadholder For 2 mm Leads
Staedtler Mars technico 788 C is the student-quality version of their 2 mm leadholder, sold here as a single holder with an HB lead fitted.
It works the same way as the professional 780 C: press the button and the clutch releases the 2 mm lead so you can set the length you want. The 788 C keeps things simpler, with a blue barrel, a ribbed blue grip, a black tip cone and a metal clip that shows the hardness degree of the lead inside. Staedtler state that it is PVC and latex free and made in Germany.
Students in art, architecture and design classes use a leadholder for loose sketching and tonal work, swapping grades by swapping leads rather than buying new pencils. Staedtler suggest Mars carbon 200 leads. They do not list a built-in pointer for this model, so keep a lead pointer or sandpaper block handy.
