Slim, Hexagonal And Black: The graphite 778
Staedtler graphite 778 05-9 is a box of 10 slim black mechanical pencils with a 0.5 mm line, a metal tip and clip, and a twist eraser hidden in the pusher.
Staedtler added the 778 to their Australian catalogue in 2024. The barrel is hexagonal with a matt finish, the lead is spring-loaded (Staedtler also call it cushioned), and the lead tube retracts so it can go in a pocket. Twist the pusher and a rotary eraser winds out; twist it back when you are done.
The look is plain and businesslike, which suits offices, design studios and anyone who wants a pencil that reads as a pen in a meeting. It writes a fine 0.5 mm line for diaries, planners and margin notes, and refills with standard 0.5 mm leads. A 0.7 mm version, 778 07-9, is also on our shelves.
