Hand-Crank Rotary Sharpener With Desk Clamp
The Staedtler Mars 501 180 is a crank-handle rotary sharpener that clamps to a desk and points round, triangular and hexagonal pencils.
Staedtler rate it for graphite and coloured pencils up to 12 mm in diameter, and the clear lower section of the sharpener is printed with a range of 7 mm to 11.6 mm. Rubberised claws grip the pencil without marking its surface, a metal rotary blade does the cutting, and an automatic sharpening stop ends the cut once the point is formed.
The point is adjustable. Set it long and sharp for clean, accurate lines and hatching, or short and blunt for broad, soft shading with coloured pencils.
The desk clamp holds it steady on a classroom bench or studio table so one hand can turn the crank. It comes in a Staedtler box printed Mars rotary sharpener, with instructions in several languages.
