Staedtler 437 M-9 is a box of 10 triplus ball ballpoint pens with black ink and a medium line, each in a three-sided barrel with a cap.
Black medium is the default for most offices: application forms, timesheets, dockets, cheque butts and anything that will be scanned or photocopied later. Staedtler build the triplus ball around a triangular barrel that they call ergonomic, for relaxed and easy writing, and they describe the writing itself as particularly smooth. The tip is a conical metal point, and the cap is ventilated.
Two details matter at a busy desk. Staedtler say the ink dries fast so markings do not smudge, and their catalogue adds that it resists smudging even when highlighted, so a signed page can be marked up straight away. They also list the 437 as airplane-safe, with automatic pressure equalisation to stop the pen leaking on board aircraft, which suits a pen that lives in a laptop bag.
