Red Ballpoints For Marking, Corrections And Line Drawing
Staedtler 4230 M-2 is ten red ball 4230 ballpoints with a triangular grip, a push-button retracting point and a 1.0mm medium tip.
A red pen does a particular set of jobs: marking homework, flagging errors on a proof, ticking off a stocktake sheet or adding a second colour to meeting notes. For those short bursts of marking, a click pen saves fumbling with a cap between pages. Staedtler Australia list the 4230 as a retractable triangular ballpoint, and on their website describe the three-sided shape as ergonomic, for relaxed and easy writing and drawing.
Staedtler's own photographs show the red 4230 used for fine line illustrations of flowers, so it is not only a correcting pen. Their 2024 catalogue calls the writing particularly smooth, lists the ink as indelible to ISO 12757-2 and describes the pen as airplane safe. The barrel is a tinted see-through red, easy to find in a pencil case full of blue.
