A Triangular Barrel Click Pen For Everyday Black Ink
Staedtler 4230 M-9 is a box of 10 black ball 4230 pens, a triangular ballpoint with a medium line from a ball of about 1.0mm.
Black is the colour most forms, delivery dockets, exam papers and signatures ask for, so this is the version of the 4230 that gets used hardest. The barrel has three flat sides for the thumb and first two fingers to rest on, a shape Staedtler describe as ergonomic, for relaxed and easy writing. Staedtler Australia's 2024 trade catalogue names it a retractable pen, and their photographs show the push-button top and clip, so the point goes away without a cap to lose.
Staedtler call the writing particularly smooth. Per the same catalogue, its indelible ink conforms to ISO 12757-2, and the pen is rated airplane safe: automatic pressure equalisation stops it leaking on board aircraft, so it can ride in a carry-on bag. Through the see-through smoky barrel the ink tube is visible, which helps when a class set or a counter pen is being checked for spares. No refill is listed for the 4230, so it is a pen to use up and replace. Staedtler Australia supply this article by the box of 10, which is also their minimum order.
Other click pens are in retractable ballpoint pens, three-sided grips in triangular barrel pens, and the wider choice in ballpoint pens and Staedtler writing supplies.
