The Palest Cool Grey, With A Soft Brush Behind It
Staedtler 372-870 is cool grey light in the pigment soft brush pen, and this listing supplies ten of them.
Light cool grey is the colour that goes down first. It sets the shadow shape under a white mug, the curve on the side of an egg, the soft edge of a cloud, before anything darker is committed. Because the 372 has Staedtler's softest brush tip, a little pressure opens the nib into a broad stroke that covers a background quickly, while the point still manages a thin edge. Fog, mist, morning haze and distant hills all read better in this grey than in a darker one.
The ink is Multi Ink, the translucent pigment India ink used across the Pigment Arts range. Staedtler say it dries fast, is waterproof and permanent once dry and can be layered over itself to build depth, so one pass gives a whisper of tone and two or three passes give a firmer mid shadow.
