Pacific Blue 39 For Open Ocean, Deep Water And Bold Headings
Pacific blue (Staedtler colour 39) is a rich, deep ocean blue; this listing is a box of ten 371-39 brush pens for seascapes, deep water and confident headings.
Where pale blue 30 suits the sky, pacific blue belongs lower in the picture: open sea, the shadow side of a wave, a lake under cloud, blueberries, a peacock feather, a denim jacket in shade. It is also a strong single colour for a title page or a section divider, dark enough to read at a distance but friendlier than black.
Staedtler use it in two boxes: the Nature Colours twelve (371 C12-3), where it is the main water colour, and Blues and Violets (371 C6-2). Layered over ice blue 310 it gives shallow to deep water in two strokes, and indigo blue 36 takes it darker still.
The pen is filled with Multi Ink. Staedtler describe a translucent pigment India ink that goes on water-based, dries quickly and ends up permanent and waterproof, so a salt or watercolour background can be worked around it without the blue running.
