Staedtler 371-87 is the pigment brush pen in colour 87, cool grey medium, sold here as a box of 10 pens for studios, classrooms and anyone who reaches for the same grey again and again.
A mid-value cool grey is the workhorse of marker rendering. It puts the first shadow under a product sketch, gives a building elevation its depth and turns a flat line drawing into something with form. Because Staedtler make the ink translucent, one pass gives a soft tone and a second pass over the dried first layer builds a darker step, so a single pen covers more than one value. For a full scale, pair it with 870 cool grey light and 871 cool grey dark from the same range.
The 371 uses Staedtler's Multi Ink, which they describe as a water-based India ink made with high-quality pigments, permanent and waterproof once dry, with extreme lightfastness. Staedtler add that it stays on its own side of the page with no bleed or show-through, which matters when grey shading sits on thin sketchbook pages. The brush nib is medium strength, so it holds a controlled edge for hatching and still flexes for wider sweeps.
