A Nine-Piece Starter Box For Brush Lettering
Staedtler 61 371-1 is the Design Journey Brush Lettering Set: four pigment brush pens, a soft brush pen, a pigment pen, a drawing pencil, an art eraser and a metal sharpener in one window box.
Brush script is mostly about pressure, heavy on the downstroke and light on the way up, and the set gives you three ways to practise it. The four standard brush pens have a medium-strength tip that Staedtler describe as a balance of flexibility and control, the soft brush pen flexes further for bigger swells and flourishes, and the pigment pen adds even lines for dots, outlines and small detail. The pencil is there for guidelines and rough layouts, with the eraser and sharpener to tidy up.
All six pens are filled with Multi Ink, Staedtler's see-through pigment India ink, which they say dries quickly, stays waterproof and does not come through on the reverse of a journal page. The caps in Staedtler's photos are black, light pink, deep pink, blue and grey.
