Thirty-Six Square Soft Pastels for Blending and Layering
Staedtler 2430 C36 is a cardboard box of 36 soft pastel chalks in assorted colours, each a square stick of 10 x 10 x 65 mm wrapped in a paper sleeve.
Staedtler list brilliant colours, a high degree of light fastness, soft marking and easy blending. The square section gives two ways of working with one stick: the corner for crisp lines and small details, the long flat side for laying broad colour across a sky or a background. Smudge with a fingertip or a blending stump to soften edges, then build layers on top.
The paper sleeve keeps more of the chalk off your fingers while you hold the stick. As with any soft pastel drawing, Staedtler recommend fixing finished work, and a paper with some tooth holds more layers than smooth copy paper.
