Staedtler 146M M12 is a slim Design Journey tin of twelve metallic coloured pencils, made to add shine where ordinary colour looks flat.
Staedtler describe the 146M as a pencil for shimmering metallic effects, with a soft lead that gives high coverage. Their notes single out dark paper, where the metallic shades catch the light best, and say the pencil handles both fine lines and shading of larger areas.
The swatch chart shows a spread of gold, copper, rose, violet, blue, teal, green, bronze and silver tones rather than one or two novelty colours, so the tin can carry a whole drawing on black card or just add accents to a coloured pencil piece. Staedtler do not publish the colour names.
Good uses include greeting cards, Christmas and festival decorations, scrapbook titles and night scenes, and the tin makes a neat small gift.
