The Whole 146C Range In One Tin
Staedtler make the 146C coloured pencil in 72 colours, and the 146C M72 tin holds every one of them, arranged across two lift-out trays and the base of the tin.
Staedtler describe a soft lead with highly pigmented colours that are easy to blend, suited to a wide range of dry techniques. The barrel is the classic hexagonal shape. With the complete range you get the shades smaller tins leave out: phthalo blue and phthalo green, slate blues, aquamarine, salmon, rose wood, indian red, a warm grey 5 and a cool grey 13 among them.
That depth is what realistic work needs. Animal fur, skin, foliage and skies all rely on close neighbouring tones rather than heavy layering, and a full palette saves time mixing on paper.
Staedtler state the pencils are made in Germany and name two of their own sharpeners for them, listed in the specifications.
