Staedtler 146C M48 holds 48 coloured pencils in a metal tin with a lift-out tray, the point where a set moves from colouring in to proper tonal drawing.
Compared with the 24, the tin brings in the in-between colours: sand, lemon and dark ochre; light rosé, scarlet and carmine red; mauve and lavender; pastel blue, turquoise and delft blue; sap, lime, olive, hookers green and green earth; english red and tobacco brown; plus grey, cool grey and two dove greys. Those are the tones you reach for in landscapes, animals and portraits.
Blending comes easily, since Staedtler give the 146C a soft lead packed with pigment for dry techniques of many kinds, set in a hexagonal barrel. Germany is the country of manufacture Staedtler state.
