Woodless Pure Graphite Pencils In Six Degrees
Staedtler Mars Lumograph pure graphite 100G M6 is a metal tin of six full graphite pencils, solid graphite with no wood casing, in HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B and 10B.
Because the whole pencil is graphite, every part of the tip can draw. Staedtler point out that you can hold it flat for broad coverage or upright for defined lines, which makes these pencils well suited to large-scale shading, quick tonal blocking and loose, expressive studies.
The core is roughly 6.8 mm across, and a varnished coating on the outside keeps fingers cleaner while you work. Staedtler describe the graphite as finely graded with smooth transitions and a subtle metallic lustre, and the strokes as uniform and repeatable.
Solid graphite has no wood to cushion it, so store the pencils in their tin and avoid dropping them. To shape the point Staedtler suggest sandpaper 923 or their Mars 510 25 double-hole model, and erasing with the Mars plastic 526 50. Made in Germany, as Staedtler state.
