Soft 6B Blacks With A Matte Finish
A Staedtler box of 12 Mars Lumograph black 6B pencils, for drawing the darkest shadows and heavy accents in a velvety, low-glare black.
6B is the third softest of the six black grades, after 8B and 7B. It is the grade for deep shadows under objects, dark backgrounds and bold, expressive marks, where a carbon-rich lead keeps the black flat instead of shiny. Staedtler say the range is made for dramatic contrasts and exceptional depth.
The 6B lead is approx. 3.6 mm. Staedtler point to a soft, blendable laydown, high break resistance and consistent strokes, and they state the pencils are made in Germany. A 5426 blending stump is their suggestion for smooth gradients, with the 5427 kneadable eraser for pulling out lights.
