Rich, Soft Darks From The 7B Grade
This box holds 12 Staedtler Mars Lumograph 100-7B pencils, a very soft grade that gives heavy, buttery marks for strong tonal drawing.
Between the 6B and 8B, the 7B gives a dense dark that is still manageable in the hand. It works well for large shaded areas, dramatic portraits, textured drawings of bark and stone, and loose life drawing on newsprint or cartridge paper.
Staedtler fit the 7B with the approximately 3.6 mm lead used across 6B to 11B. They describe the graphite as finely graded for smooth transitions with a subtle metallic lustre, uniform in its strokes and resistant to breaking.
Soft grades wear quickly, so a box of 12 suits regular users and classes. Germany is the country of manufacture Staedtler give, and their recommended eraser is the Mars plastic 526 50.
