The Darkest Value In A Pastel Pencil Palette
Stabilo 0078407 is Neutral Black from the Stabilo CarbOthello pastel pencil range, with 1400/750 printed on the barrel.
Every tonal drawing needs a reliable darkest point, and in a pastel pencil set that job falls to black. It sets the deepest shadows, firms up an outline once the lighter layers are down, and anchors a monochrome study worked alongside the CarbOthello greys. Black is usually one of the first pencils to run short, which is why it pays to hold a spare.
ACCO list a 4.4mm lead for robust, consistent strokes and a wooden shaft that protects the lead from breaking. They also describe the pigment load as high, giving a strong, even black rather than a washed grey.
