The Pilot Custom 845 is a Japanese fountain pen with a body of ebonite finished in urushi lacquer and a two-tone 18K gold fine nib, a more compact companion to the Custom Urushi.
Ebonite is hard rubber, warm and slightly soft to the touch, and urushi is the natural lacquer used on Japanese lacquerware. Layered over the black ebonite body it gives a deep, high-gloss finish that improves with handling rather than wearing. The nib is Pilot's large size 15 in 18K gold with a two-tone finish and fine point, tuned for a controlled line that suits small handwriting, forms and detailed notes.
It fills with the Pilot CON-70N push-button converter supplied in the box, which takes bottled ink, or with a Pilot IC-50 cartridge for convenience when travelling. The gold nib gives a gentle softness under pressure, and the screw cap keeps the nib sealed between sessions.
