Textured shells for sensory play and early number skills
EDX Education Tactile Shells Set, EDX item code 15205, holds 36 sea shells with 6 different tactile surfaces in 3 sizes, supplied with 1 cotton bag.
EDX sells the set as Green-n-Learn Sensory Shells and describes the shells as made from Fibre Particulate Composite (FPC) agricultural waste. The distributor lists 6 different tactile shells in 3 sizes, 2 of each. EDX notes that children can use three of their five senses, sight, sound and touch, to explore the shells.
For a sensory activity, EDX suggests placing the shells in an opaque bag and asking children to identify each texture by feel. The shells also suit early number concepts, which EDX lists as sorting, matching, comparing, sequencing, patterning and counting. EDX lists the City Kids The Green Award 2025 for the set.
EDX lists the shells for ages 18 months to 4 years, and suggests the shells for sorting and counting as well as sensory play. Explore the EDX Education range, more sensory toys, maths equipment and the wider educational supplies catalogue.
