A clear bucket balance for early weight lessons
EDX Education Junior Balance, distributor code LJB, is a bucket balance with two clear buckets and two coloured lids that EDX designs to teach young children balancing concepts.
EDX lists the assembled balance at 37 x 12 x 14cm and the two clear buckets at 500mL each. The buckets carry weights or counters, so children add items to each side and watch one side rise as the other lowers. Fit the two coloured lids and the bucket balance becomes a pan balance, with flat platforms for objects and counters.
EDX describes the balance as a way to discover the measurement of weight, counting and equivalence. EDX says students enjoy comparing the weight of a liquid with other objects. Because the buckets are clear, a group can see what sits on each side as it rises or lowers, which gives a discussion about heavier and lighter something concrete.
