Six optical patterns for quick texture rubbings
The Roylco Rubbing Plates Optical Pack of 6, supplier code GR081, gives students six different optical design patterns to transfer onto drawing paper by rubbing.
The supplier describes a simple method: place drawing paper over a rubbing plate and rub over the surface with Zart Drawing Blocks, Rubbing Blocks or crayons. The pattern on the plate comes up through the paper as a texture. With six different optical designs in the pack, students can compare patterns side by side or combine them in one piece.
The supplier recommends drawing blocks, rubbing blocks or crayons, so the activity uses materials many art rooms already keep on hand. Students can move the paper and rub again over a different plate, building up several optical textures on one sheet, or swap plates with a partner to explore all six designs.
Pair the plates with blocks or crayons and a stack of drawing paper. You will find Zart drawing materials in the Zart range, plus craft crayons, drawing supplies and educational craft supplies.
