Soft aluminium wire for building sculpture skeletons
Zart Aluminium Armature Wire, supplier code WG903, is a 10 gauge roll of very soft aluminium wire, 3mm thick and about 50m long, for armatures and model supports.
Zart describes this as a very soft aluminium wire that is ideal for construction. It is flexible and pliable, so students can shape and form it into armatures or model supports, for individual projects or group work. The supplier says its sturdy yet lightweight construction makes it a great choice for 3D models and structures.
Use the wire to create the basic skeleton of a sculpture before a more refined surface is applied, for example Magiclay or Modroc. Wrap it around a dowel rod to make coils, or around pliers for a rounded shape. The roll format means each student can take the length their design needs.
