A convex mirror bulges towards you and reflects light outward, so it never focuses. The image is always smaller than the object, and it grows as the object comes closer.
The everyday example is the passenger side mirror on a car, which is why it carries the warning that objects are closer than they appear. That warning exists because of exactly the distortion this mirror demonstrates - which makes it one of the easier optics lessons to connect to something students have actually seen.
Glass rather than polished plastic, because a curved plastic mirror distorts in ways that have nothing to do with the curve you are trying to teach.
