The Familiar School Scientific, Updated
The Casio fx-82AU PLUS II 2nd edition is a non-programmable, non-graphing scientific calculator with 240 functions, which Shriro describe as approved by Australian exam authorities and suited to students from Year 7 up.
Its natural textbook display shows fractions, roots and powers the way they are written in a maths book, on a dual line screen that keeps the expression above the answer. The 2nd edition adds functions that Shriro call out by name: prime factorisation, greatest common divisor and lowest common multiple, summary statistics with median and quartiles, and a verify function for checking equalities and inequalities.
Statistics data goes in as lists, and there are random integers, combinations and permutations, coordinate conversion, exponential regression and multi-replay for editing an earlier line. Nine variables and an independent memory hold working values. Ridged cursor keys are easy to tell from the function keys, and a slide-on case protects it in a school bag.
Shriro give an approximate main battery life of 17,000 hours and a 5 year warranty. Exam rules are set by each state and change, so check the current approved list. The Casio user guide is attached as a PDF.
