A lap pad sits across the thighs while a child is seated. The weight is steady, the child's hands are free, and nothing is around their neck or shoulders - which is why lap pads are usually the first weighted resource a classroom tries.
Machine washable in cold water - and that is the reason to choose this over most weighted pads. Do not bleach, tumble dry on no heat, do not dry clean. For a resource that will be shared between children, washability is not a nice-to-have.
1.36kg is heavier than the shoulder pad (0.78kg), which is right: thighs take more weight comfortably than shoulders do.
60cm long and 22cm wide, so it covers both legs of a primary-aged child.
The safety part, in plain terms
The supplier says: use under adult supervision, and not intended for use during sleep. That is their instruction and it is the important one.
No minimum body weight is published. Weighted resources are normally matched to a child's size by an occupational therapist. If a child has a sensory plan, their OT should choose the weight, not us and not a product page.
Our own rule: the child must be able to move it off themselves. Nothing weighted goes on a child who cannot remove it.
