The Brother TD-4520TN is a four inch desktop label printer that runs both thermal transfer and direct thermal, printing up to 105.7mm wide at 300dpi and up to 127.0 mm per second.
Thermal transfer needs a ribbon and gives a harder, longer lasting mark; direct thermal needs none. Media runs 20mm to 112mm wide and up to 11,430mm long. The control panel is 1 button and a single three-colour LED, with no LCD. Emulation is FBPL-EZD, covering EPL, ZPL, ZPL II and DPL, and Brother supplies BarTender Ultra Lite.
Ribbons are the running cost. Brother publishes three at 110mm x 300m: N8BK00009, N8BK00010 and N8BK00011. The printer accepts ribbon 40mm to 110mm wide, on a half inch core to 110m or a one inch core to 300m, and a pair of one inch spindles is in the box.
