The Brother TD-4420TNC is a four inch desktop label printer with Brother's cutter fitted from the factory that runs both thermal transfer and direct thermal, printing up to 108mm wide at 203dpi and up to 152.4 mm per second.
Thermal transfer needs a ribbon and gives a harder, longer lasting mark; direct thermal needs none. Media runs 20mm to 112mm wide and up to 25,400mm long. The control panel is 1 button and a single three-colour LED, with no LCD. Emulation is FBPL-EZD, covering EPL, ZPL, ZPL II and DPL, and Brother supplies BarTender Ultra Lite.
The cutter is fitted in the factory rather than added later, so the printer arrives ready to cut. One trade to know: Brother lists the tear bar as not applicable on the cutter variant, and the release mode becomes cutter rather than continuous and tear off. Fitted depth is 333mm and weight 2.87 kg.
