The Original P-touch Cassette Format
The genuine Brother M-E31 is a non-laminated M-series label cassette, 12mm wide and 8m long, black on pink, for the handheld Brother P-touch it was made for.
M-series cassettes are Brother's older, non-laminated tape format for its handheld P-touch machines. The print sits on the tape surface rather than under a protective laminate layer, which makes it fine for indoor organising and labelling and unsuited to anything that gets handled hard, wet or left in sunlight.
Use it for the everyday indoor labelling a handheld P-touch is bought for - files, shelves, containers, cables at the desk. Brother publishes no durability testing for M tape at all: no temperature range, no water resistance and no outdoor rating, so we do not claim any. If a label has to survive weather, washing or rough handling, a laminated TZe tape is the right choice instead.
One thing worth knowing before you order: Brother lists exactly one machine for this cassette, the handheld PT-90, and Brother now flags that machine as discontinued. Brother has also stopped publishing a price for this tape while continuing to price its other M-series cassettes. So treat it as end-of-line stock - fine if you still run a PT-90, but not a format to standardise on. Ask us before ordering in quantity and we will tell you what we can still source.
