A pack of 180 magenta numeric '1' side tab colour coding labels at 25 x 38mm, on polyester with a permanent adhesive, supplied as sheets. 1 is one of the ten digit codes Avery makes for number based lateral filing.
Applied to the side tab of a lateral file, the digit reads from the drawer face with the file still in place. Avery gives each of the ten digits its own colour, so a file number becomes a sequence of colours on the shelf rather than something that has to be read one character at a time.
That is what makes a numeric system worth colour coding. Transposed digits are the most common filing error, and a file sitting in the wrong place shows up as a break in the colour sequence from across the room, before anyone pulls it out to check the number. No two digits share a colour, so there is no pair to confuse.
Magenta is the colour Avery assigns to the digit 1, and it holds that colour across the side tab and top tab formats, so a file coded on both edges matches.
