A roll of 500 purple alphabetical 'U' side tab colour coding labels at 25 x 38mm, supplied in a dispenser box, on polyester with a permanent adhesive. U is one of the 27 letter codes Avery makes for name based lateral filing, A to Z plus Mc.
Applied to the side tab of a lateral file, the letter reads from the drawer face with the file still in place. In a name based system every file starting with U carries the same purple tab, so a whole surname run can be scanned, pulled or refiled without opening a folder, and a misfile shows as a break in the colour block.
Purple is the colour Avery assigns to the letter U. The palette runs twelve colours from A to L and repeats from M to X, so U shares its purple with I and the printed letter is what keeps the pair apart on the shelf.
