Worth stating plainly because it produces real errors: a scale rule is a reading instrument, and using one as an ordinary ruler gives a number that means nothing. Match the printed scales to the drawings you work from. Set squares and templates want a bevelled edge so ink does not bleed underneath. Check the syllabus for student sets.
