Format follows volume. A self-inking body carries its own pad and keeps a reception or accounts desk moving; a traditional block with a separate pad costs less and suits occasional use. Pads are replaceable, so the body outlives several. Date stamps need the band reset each morning, which is the step that gets forgotten. See rubber stamps, date stamps and stamp pads.
