Art Paper & Canvas

The distinction is tolerance to water. Heavy paper handles wash and acrylic if the weight is there, and buckles below it. Canvas, whether stretched or bonded to a board, takes far more and holds oil as well as acrylic. Primed surfaces keep the paint on top rather than soaking in, which changes both colour and drying time. See canvas boards, art paper and paints.
