In ACCO words it combines rich charcoal qualities with a hint of colour, so a sketch keeps the dark, soft character of charcoal while picking up muted tones for sky, stone, foliage or skin. Each pencil has a round barrel, per ACCO, and the tin keeps a mixed set together between sessions.

The marks can be smudged and blended easily, and ACCO list the pencils as naturally water-soluble, so a damp brush or waterbrush turns hatching into a soft wash. ACCO also say the pencils offer great control with less mess, which matters in a classroom or a shared studio.

A box of six tins gives a teacher or workshop leader one set per table.
