D is one of the 27 letter codes Avery makes for name based lateral filing, A to Z plus Mc.

Applied to the side tab of a lateral file, the character reads from the drawer face with the file still in place. In a name based system every file under D carries the same dark orange tab, so a whole run can be scanned, pulled or refiled without opening a folder, and a misfile shows as a break in the colour block.

Surname distribution is uneven, so a records room works through the common letters long before the rare ones. The pack of 180 suits topping up a letter that runs down faster than the rest, or a smaller system where a roll of 500 would sit part used for years. It is the same label as the roll, supplied on sheets rather than in a dispenser box.

Dark Orange is the colour Avery assigns to the letter D. The palette runs twelve colours from A to L and repeats from M to X, so D shares its dark orange with P, and the printed letter is what keeps the pair apart on the shelf.

The facestock is polyester with a permanent adhesive, which stands up to the handling a working file takes and then an archive. The same code is also available as a roll of 500 under Avery code 43204, a larger 25 x 42mm side tab pack of 240 under 44504 and a top tab pack of 150 under 44404. It sits in our Avery side tab filing label range, alongside the wider Avery lateral filing label selection, our lateral filing label category and the full label supplies range.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0863/5419/8784/files/Avery_AlphabeticalD_SideTabLabels_25x38mm_43304_hero_Mega_Office_Supplies.jpg?v=1791399227
https://megaschoolsupplies.com.au/products/avery-43304-alphabetical-d-side-tab-colour-coding-labels-25-x-38-mm-180-pack
